Spring Break - Saturday

Saturday was cold, windy, rainy and honestly two nights away from home was plenty for our kids.  They were completely ready to go home, but since I paid for the rooms online, they were pre-paid for and there was a no return policy so I was determined to make Saturday fun.

The little kids loved running down the hallway and riding in the elevator.  If you ask Lucas what his favorite part of the trip was he will tell you that it was riding in the elevator.

Saturday morning after breakfast we took the kids to the Silverton/Bass Pro Shop (they are attached to each other).  There is a giant fish tank with all sorts of fish and even a mermaid that does a show every hour or so.  Lucas was scared of her but Paige had a great time.

After our morning out and a nap we ventured out for our last afternoon in Vegas.  The kids wanted to ride a train so we thought we could go to the Flamingo and see their little exhibit with Flamingos and then we would go back to Mandalay Bay and ride the free shuttle that goes from Mandalay Bay to the Excalibur.

Lucas didn't nap when Jared and I did so he fell asleep in the truck on the way to the Flamingo.  By the time we got there it was pouring rain and the only parking spot we could find was on the very top level of the parking garage which incidentally is not covered.  We parked and grabbed the kids and ran for the elevator as fast as we could, but not fast enough and Lucas woke up to a ton of cold rain pouring down on him.  By the time we got into the hotel he was screaming and doing his gagging thing (that deserves a post all by itself).  He was crying and gagging and begging for ice cream.  Ahh!!!  the girls were mad at this point and I almost wanted to laugh.  I thought Jared was going to loose it.  People were staring and of course it's St. Patricks day in Las Vegas and its 4:00 in the afternoon so there was literally no kids around except our kids who were grumpy and screaming.  HaHa!!  Ice cream to the rescue!!!

We shared some ice cream and it stopped raining but we were tired and we didn't want to try and go through the whole Flamingo casino to find the exhibit and we didn't want to drive down the strip to find another parking spot and walk through another casino and ride a train.  Quick thinking - the Las Vegas Monorail has a pickup spot at the Flamingo so we bought our tickets and climbed aboard.  It was cool to ride the monorail and see the backside of the hotels that way.  We rode if for an hour and then called it good.  Dinner was next.

After dinner we drove the strip.  Just so the kids could see the lights.  Paige was in the back quoting lines out of "Despicable Me"  about the statue of liberty and the Eiffel tower - "the small one from Vegas".  Haha.  Love my kids.

MaKady and I managed to sneak away during our little trip and go see the Titanic exhibit at the Luxor.  We bought tickets for half price at the tix4tonight booth.  We took our time walking through the exhibit and reading each and everyone of the little plaques describing the items on display and all about the Titanic.  Amazing!!!  It was such a cool experience.  MaKady was especially excited to see it because she is in her high school production of the Titanic so it gave her a little more insight.  I definitely recommend it.  But it's definitely not for little kids.  Even at half price it was expensive and little kids would just be bored.  The cool thing about the exhibit in Las Vegas is that they have what's called "the big piece" which is the largest part of the ship  that they have found in all their expeditions to recover artifacts from the titanic.  It is huge and amazing.  I wish we could have taken pictures in the exhibit, but it was one of those that photography is not allowed and they have workers that follow you around.  They also have an exact replica of the grand staircase which we got our picture taken on.

We really had a fun spring break and I feel like my kids got to see a learn about a lot of things.  One thing I will remember for next time is that 2 nights away from home is all my kids can handle :)
