Memorial Day

We were privileged to go to Jared's home town for memorial day this year. They have a little program at the Levan Town Cemetery every year. This year was particularly special because they have a new Veterans Memorial Monument and they extended the cemetery. The program was awesome. Jared's uncle Russell Mangelson is the Levan town mayor, and he conducted the program. Also his Grandpa Golden, Uncle Mike Royce, and Uncle Russell are in the American Legion - Levan Post 24. They participated in the gun salute.

(It was really neat to see Jared's grandpa Golden participate in this. I have seen him do it a couple of times now, but the memory that stands out in my mind the most was 4 years ago when Jared's grandpa Meril Stephensen passed away. Grandpa Golden was also the one that handed Jared's grandma the folded flag in honor of his Grandpa Stephensen.)

After the flag raising and the gun salute there were a few speakers and then the dedication of the monument. How proud I am to be an American and to have the freedom that I have. I support our military, past and present. This memorial day was a good reminder of that and I loved having my family there to be a part of that.

Jared's Grandpa Meril is listed in the middle column near the bottom.

Some other things we did over the weekend included: planting flowers in the yard, having a bbq with some friends, church on Sunday, dinner with Jared's family, lunch at Grandma Mangelson's, and seeing the new Shrek movie. We really did have a great weekend.
