4th of July Weekend

On Friday July 2, 2010 Jared turned 34!!! Happy Birthday Sweetie!! I made him banana cream pie, it's his favorite (plus we like it to). We actually celebrated his birthday on Thursday.
Jared had Friday off so while I was at work, he packed up and went and set up a camp for us, up Chicken Creek. When I got off work I grabbed the food and headed up. It was the first time we have taken Lucas camping. He loves being outside. He loved the little chair he got to sit in, and the campfire, and the smores.

After dinner while on my way to the bathroom (if you can call it that) I heard a rustling sound in the bushes by our camp, when I looked down sure enough - A SNAKE!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH. Of course I screamed, grabbed the kids and we all stood on a table while Jared killed the snake with the broom. Yuck!!! I am freaked out when it comes to snakes. I can pretty much handle anything else. So I had to make sure the snake was completely disposed of. Luckily that was our only mishap while camping.
We are old fashioned (and poor) so we camp with a tent, not a fancy trailer like most other people these days. We prefer it this way. So do the kids.
We had dinner Friday night and then Jared got the fire going and we roasted marshmallows and ate smores and MaKady roasted starbursts. She loves them. Something she learned from my sister Tabi.
After it got dark the girls were tired and they went to bed. Lucas was tired also but he likes his own bed, so we struggled to get him to go to sleep until finally about 1:30 am he fell asleep. Then he was right back up at 6:30.

Saturday morning we sat by the fire and ate breakfast (breakfast burritos), made more smores, and blew bubbles. We also decided that we would cut our camping trip short and head on home. Lucas is still a little young to enjoy camping and I could not handle another night of not much sleep. So we packed up around 10:30 and headed home.

On the way home we decided to take a detour and go to Burrastons in Mona to go fishing. We had a great time. We didn't catch anything but we saw a lot of fish jumping and the girls got to practice casting and reeling in. They were actually glad not to catch anything. They love fishing except for the rule that we have "if you catch it, you eat it".
Paige was bound and determined to go swimming, so she threw on her swimsuit and jumped in. The water is pretty gross there, but she loved it anyway.

On Saturday night we headed into Nephi to watch the big fireworks at the High School, then Sunday night (just so we could celebrate the actual Independence day) we invited some friends over and did a few fireworks of our own.

MaKady is getting to the point where she does not want her picture taken so this is all I could get.
We had a really great long weekend and it was so much fun to hang out with our little family. I always love family time.

Lucas looks so grown up in these pictures, and my kids are exactly the same with wanting their own beds. It can be rough, esp for mom (: Happy Birthday Jared!
