Titanic

Oh Titanic.....who knew that one little performance would consume our lives the last 3 months.  But it has.  This was the first production that MaKady has been in this year.  She tried out back in February and got into the cast.  3rd class passenger, and ensemble.  She was so excited and so was I.  She has literally had practice non-stop the last three months and in the 3 weeks prior to the actual performance there would be some days (school nights) that she wouldn't get home till 1:00 am.  Weekends were non-existent and the once beautiful drive out to the school from our house (1 hour round trip) became a hardship.  I'm not going to lie, there were days when after driving out to the school 4 times in a day I just felt done, and I wondered if I should just put her in regular high school next year.

Finally the time had come for the performance....weeks and months of rehearsal, many long nights, countless hours...but finally it was here.  And one thing I figured out - it was totally worth it!!  The move, the driving, the late nights, all worth it.  I loved seeing MaKady perform.  She really comes to life on the stage and she managed to keep her grades up.

Opening night of the performance, I was there sitting in the Tuacahn Amphitheater taking it all in.  It was completely surreal.  Then the performance started, the singing started and I started crying.  Huge sobbing tears because it was just the moment I knew MaKady had been waiting for all her life,  the moment when she could  be onstage doing what she loves and it was all worth it.

The performance itself was amazing.  It was the Broadway version of Titanic (not the Leonardo DiCaprio version) and the music just made it come to life.  You forgot in those 2 hours that you were watching kids (ages 13-18).  It was better than any performance I have seen out in the Amphitheater, I even loved it better than Little Mermaid last summer.   It was put together so perfectly.  I was in awe.  My parents came down and we went again on Saturday night and they loved it as much as I did.

I  am so proud of MaKady and all her hard work this year.  I can't wait to see what she accomplishes next year.
