Birthday Cake

Saturday February 6, 2010

Because Lucas' birthday happened to be the same weekend as super bowl I thought it would be fun to make his cake look like a football. Originally I had planned on taking a couple of round cakes and then cutting them down to look like footballs, but the cakes I had made were some that I made for Lucy's wedding that I didn't end up needing. I wrapped them and froze them for the week, then brought them down with us when we went to St. George. I let them thaw on Tabi's counter and when I went to cut them to use for a birthday cake they fell apart, when I say "fell apart" I mean they crumbled completely when I touched them. It was a mess and needless to say, we were not about to eat those things, so into the garbage they went (I cringe as I'm typing this because I really hate wasting anything) but that is where they belonged.

Tabi happened to have 1 cake mix so we ended up making it into cupcakes and then squishing a few together to make the little cake for Lucas. Paige and MaKady didn't think it looked very much like a football, but what can you do? It tasted good and it was perfect for Lucas.

He was a little scared of the cake at first. He would act like he was going to touch it and then he would back away. Finally Uncle Kole just held it up to his mouth. One taste of that yummy chocolate frosting and he was ready for more.

Just like his mom, licking his fingers.

Happy 1st Birthday Lucas!!!
